Amalfi Coast:

A full day Private Car Tour from the Cruise Terminal

This was my personal choice, while on your Mediterranean Cruise. I took the liberty of booking ahead of time with a well established European Tour Operator, Specializing in  Mediterranean Cruise Excursions. I had used them in Dubrovnik, and was really impressed when I met my personal Guide and at dockside in Naples on our arrival. Italian speaking, his english was average, but he made up by being a great guide and friend. I made it clear to hime that I was not interested in “Tourist” areas, and wanted to be where the locals were.

Janni was very engaging from the moment he picked me up in a beautiful Mercedes van. I told him that I would like to see if we could squeeze in the following itinerary, as I had to be back at dockside by 5pm. I wanted to revisit the Amalfi Coast, which I had driven personally with my group, way back in 1968.We by passed Sorento, as it would have been too much to cover – considering we would be visiting Positano, Amalfi and finally Ravello, before heading back to Naples by 5 pm. He was most informative with his commentary, all along the Amalfi Coast – lots of stops for photo ops. We stopped in Positano, where he dropped me in the downtown of the village, – great shopping – very upscale fashion stores for both men & women.

Amazing Amalfi coast. Positano, Italy

He had a surprise in store when he picked me up. He pointed up the mountainside, and advise me that thats where we would be having lunch – a local favorite! Perfect choice for me. The restaurant name is Da Costantino – great location looking down on Positano, and right across the Amalfi Coast to Salerno! Stunning views, great pasta and an Italian family owners to keep us entertained! Well patronized by locals and visitors.

From here we traveled the world renowned ‘narrow” Amalfi Coast with glorious views of this stunning coastline to the village of Amalfi. En route, Janni pointed out Sophia Loren’s home, which is located off the highway, but nestled close the to ocean, with spectacular views of the village of Amalfi. After numerous photo ops, which I plan on sharing with you in my blog, he headed up the mountainside , through vineyards, on our way to the music capital of this region, to the village of Ravello. Located atop the local mountains, a gem of a village to relax, with an espresso, shopping and of course more photo ops of the area. From here, we were able to make good time to be back to the Cruise terminal by 5 pm! A must see for anyone!

The tour company I was fortunate in making these arrangements with, operate throughout Europe, and certainly provide a huge selection of incredible unique Private guided tours for all Cruise stops. I just found it easier working with one company – knowing exactly what I was getting. Personally, having driven coach tours throughout Europe, I am not a big fan of 45 – 55 seater motor coaches! I prefer the Private tour with 6 – 12 people, Lot more relaxing, more intimate, and less waiting for “stragglers”!
